Retinol or Tretinoin?

retinol tips for newbies
Which retinoid is right for you?

There are several options in the retinoid family- retinol, retinaldehyde, retinyl esters, tretinoin. Each vary in strength so it is a good idea to speak with a provider to determine which retinol is right for your skincare goals.

There are many factors you need to consider- your age, your lifestyle (how good are you about wearing sunscreen?), your skin type. While all skin types can benefit from retinol, you must start slowly and be sure to protect your skin with generous amounts of sunscreen. Yes, even in winter!

The general rule of thumb is to use your retinoid product one time a week per decade of age (twice a week in your twenties, four times a week in your forties, etc.). You may experience irritation, redness and drying symptoms during the first few weeks of use. If it is intolerable, your provider will advise you to lower your dose or use it less frequently.

Here at Northshore Dermatology, Dr. Tabor has formulated his own blend called TaborLuma. This product utilizes a tretinoin, along with two other complimentary medicines, specifically designed to help you turn back the aging clock!
