Importance of yearly full-body exams:
Yearly full-body exams are crucial for a multitude of reasons: early detection of skin cancer, which is highly treatable; base line monitoring for future skin conditions; allows for a personalized skin care routine; and it allows for screenings for other potential conditions.
Yearly full-body skin exams help bring attention to moles, also known as nevi, that can appear anywhere on the body. While most moles are harmless, some can be cancerous and lead to melanoma (the most serious type of skin cancer).
At our dermatologist in Louisiana, Northshore Dermatology, to treat skin cancer, we offer MOHS surgery. A specialized surgical technique used to treat skin cancer and offers high cure rates while preserving the skin with our board-certified MOHS surgeon Dr. David Pate. This allows for better cosmetic results. We also offer excisions, a procedure that involves removing a skin lesion or abnormality. Excisions are often used for diagnostic purposes for changing, painful, or suspicious lesions.

Let’s talk acne
Acne is a skin condition that happens when a follicle or pore becomes clogged with oil and dead skin cells. Many are affected by acne, not just teens going through puberty! Here at Northshore Dermatology, the best dermatologist in Louisiana and medical spa in Louisiana, we offer a variety of treatments to help clear this up, including chemical peels, HydraFacials, sublative, bacteria focused laser services, acne targeted skin care, and even prescriptions.
Chemical peels help acne because they are a resurfacing procedure that uses a chemical solution to remove the outer layers of your skin. This helps with acne scarring, fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, and more.
HydraFacials are non-invasive and combine cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration, and antioxidant infusions. It helps to remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, and enhance hydration.
Fotofacials, also known as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), are a non-invasive treatment that combines different wavelengths of light to target various skin concerns including inflamed acne.
Sublative radiofrequency is an advanced treatment option for acne and acne scarring that works by delivering controlled radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen remodeling deep within the skin. This procedure is generally safe for most skin types and tones, with minimal downtime, and patients may see up to 50–70% improvement when completing a recommended series of 3 to 5 treatments. Sublative can be customized based on skin concerns, and incorporating platelet-rich plasma (PRP) during the service may further enhance collagen production and overall results.
Erbium laser treatment is effective for treating acne scaring. The laser breaks down the scar tissue and prompts the skin to grow healthier and new. While the procedure is typically well-tolerated, there may be some swelling, redness, and peeling during recovery time. The patient can expect to see noticeable differences over the following weeks and months.
At Northshore Dermatology, we offer a wide variety of cosmeceuticals that are geared to treat various concerns. Some of our best sellers for acne specifically are from the Tabor line: Tabor Acne Wash, Tabor Toner Pads, and Tabor Sheer Cream.

Cosmetic injections and how they work:
Botox, a prescription drug that works by blocking certain chemical signals that cause muscles to contract, has continued to gain popularity as a “lunchtime procedure” because of the minimal down time and non-surgical approach. In dermatology, its primary use is to relax the muscles in the face and last from 3 to 6 months depending on your body’s metabolism. This aids in reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles giving a more youthful appearance.
At Northshore Dermatology, we use Juvéderm fillers to help patients achieve their cosmetic goals, including lip augmentation, smoothing nasolabial folds, and enhancing facial contours. Juvéderm fillers are a family of FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. With the use of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance within the body that is crucial to maintaining skin hydration, Juvéderm fillers help reduce fine lines and wrinkles as well as enhance skin elasticity. Depending on the location and desire, Juvéderm has different fillers varying in density to address all areas of concern.
